Understanding Your Type & Creating Your Niche
~ a workshop on standing out in the entertainment industry ~
The most powerful tool you have as an actor is YOU. In this workshop you’ll learn how to be yourself in every aspect of the business and yet thrive within the confines of this typecasting industry. Landing an agent and getting auditions starts with embracing your type and knowing how the industry sees you. But, developing your unique niche is the secret to achieving your career dreams.
In this workshop, Type & Image Expert Mark Atteberry will walk you through a series of exercises that will help you to identify your type, define your image, and create your own unique niche. You’ll learn how to brand and market yourself effectively, in a way that captures the attention of the industry and ensure your career will be successful and “true to you.”
Who should attend: Actors & all other creative professionals
Requirements: Bring tools for taking notes.
By the end of this workshop, you will:
- Understand what the casting director sees the second you walk into the room;
- Have a clear grasp of how to market yourself;
- Know what makes you unique from every other actor; and
- Understand everything you need to know to create your own niche.
About the Instructor: Mark Atteberry is an award-winning actor, photographer and image expert. His numerous acting credits include features like Gone Girl, The Hulk, The Future, and Butterfly Circus. His television work includes hit shows like For The People, S.W.A.T., Grace & Frankie, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Black-ish, American Crime, Rush Hour, Code Black, Scandal, CSI: Cyber, Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, Rules of Engagement, Criminal Minds, The Newsroom, Dexter, House, M.D., The Mentalist, Justified, 24, and many more. Mark is internationally known for his advertising, documentary and headshot photography. In 2010, Mark was honored by the Photography for Social Change Foundation as one of the top 100 international photographers. He was also voted “Top Headshot Photographer in LA” by BackStage Magazine. Known as “L.A.’s Type Specialist,” Mark teaches and lectures regularly around the globe on Type, Image and Branding for the actor. He has written or co-written several books including the Working Actor’s Guide to LA. Mark is the founder of Be A Working Actor Studios in Los Angeles.

Are there ID requirements to enter the event?
The good folks at the Netflix Security Gate will need to see a government-issued photo ID to match with your name on the list we give them, so make sure you register and bring your driver’s license or passport with you.
How early should I arrive at the event?
You should leave yourself enough time to get through the security gate, park in the parking structure, and walk to the front door of Netflix, where we will have someone waiting to direct you to the workshop room. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before the workshop is scheduled to begin.
What are my parking options getting to the event?
Parking is free if you are on the attendee list – here are the guest parking guidelines:
- Guest parking is located at 1455 N. Van Ness Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028.
- Please enter the Main Entry via the security gate.
- A current photo ID is required.
- Security personnel will direct you to complimentary self-parking.
- The Netflix lobby is located directly across from the parking garage.
- Immediately after entering the building turn right down the hall and wait in the coffee bar area.
